updating ya'lls on the 'ol win98se setup~
i was a bit bummed about the cd drive taking up the bay from my zip disk drive. but i needed the cd for games ya know. well, i got the fancy idea to rip my cd games into image files, and just mount them as virtual discs to install/ play them as needed, from the hard drive.
so i went about and had no trouble ripping the discs. and from testing things, the setup seems to work fine. then i was thinking. there were some games i had counted 'out' for them being on dvd's and my old thinkpad only having a cd drive. so i figured i could try ripping a dvd game on a different computer with a dvd drive, and then transferring that image to the thinkpads hdd, using a usb drive, for the transfer. i had just the game i wanted to try:
well, linux apparently is very native about ripping discs to .iso's, apparently. painless. aside from the usb being slow as heck on the ancient thinkpad. and seems to work. I'm using alcohol 120% app on the win98se side, for the ripping and mounting/ virtual, fyi.
i guess I'm setup now (?) well, besides being 'never finished.'
anyways, good times in the nostalgia lands :D
